The Milford Recreation Department is offering Pickleball Lessons for the 2025 season! Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports in the country and we are pleased to offer lessons from our certified instructor, Rudy Meredith.
We will be offering multiple types of lessons. We will be offering a Pickleball 101 Beginners Class which will be two 2 hour classes. An Advanced Beginner Pickleball Class which will meet once a week for 1 1/2 hours for 4 Weeks.
New this year, a class designed to get you to the next level. Pickleball Skills & Strategy: Advancing to 3.0 Level and Pickleball Skills & Strategy: Advancing to the 3.5 Level. These classes will meet twice a week for an hour each.

Lead Instructor
Rudy Meredith has certification in IPTPA International Pickleball Teaching Professional Association Levels 1 + 2.
He also has an extremely decorated Pickleball Playing career which includes:
-2019 USAPA Mid-Atlantic Regional Mixed Doubles and Singles Championship
-2019 USAPA Atlantic Regional Mixed Doubles and Singles Championship
-2020 Pictona Fall Open Mixed Doubles and Men's Doubles Bronze Medalist
-2020 USA Pickleball Mid-Atlantic Regional Champion- Singles Gold Medalist, Men's Doubles Silver Medalist
-2021 Atlanta Pickleball Open Singles Champion
-2021 National Senior Game Qualifier
-2021 Minto US Open Singles Champion

Monday/Wednesday/Saturday Classes
Coach Bruno Semino is a +5.0 Pickleball Player who has won a Silver Medal and MVP at the 2024 Pickleball World Cup! He has over a decade's worth of experience in the sport management industry. Currently, he is the Head Pro and General Manager at Pickleville, CT.
Tuesday/Thursday Classes
Coach JP Favretto has 30 years' experience coaching both youth and adult athletics. He is a certified Level 1 and Junior instructor (JSC) with the International Pickleball Teaching Professional Association (IPTPA) as well as a Certified Rating Specialist (CRS-4) and DUPR Coach.
Coach Susan Rotunda is a certified pickleball instructor with years of experience. Susan is registered with the International Pickleball Professionals Coaching Institute and has the following certifications: Pickleball Professional Coaching (PPR), Dynamic Universal, Pickleball Ratings (DUPR), US National Pickleball Professionals, RPPK World Tour Certification, Racquet Sports Professional Association (RSPA).
Coach James Isselee is a passionate Pickleball instructor who has a background in coaching. James works closely with both beginners and competitive players ensuring they build skills, confidence, and a love for the game. He focuses on refining technique to elevate performances.
Pickleball 101: Beginner's Introduction
Description:
Curious about pickleball? This fun and engaging two-hour beginner class is perfect for those new to the game! Learn the basic rules, fundamental skills, and key strategies to get you started. By the end of the session, you'll have the confidence to jump into a game and enjoy this fast-growing sport.
What You’ll Learn:

-Serving and returning fundamentals
-Dinking and basic volley techniques
-Court positioning and movement
-How to play a game and keep score

Anyone new to pickleball or looking for a refresher on the basics! No experience necessary—just bring your enthusiasm and a desire to learn.

Advanced Beginner Pickleball Class
An Advanced Beginners Pickleball Class is designed for players who have a basic understanding of the game and are looking to refine their skills, improve consistency, and develop better strategy.
Class Overview:
-Skill Level: Players who have some experience with pickleball, understand basic rules, and can sustain short rallies but need improvement in technique and game play.
-Duration: Typically 60-90 minutes per session.
-Class Size: Small group 8-16 players.
Key Focus Areas:
1. Stroke Development:
-Improving forehand and backhand shots.
-Developing a more consistent serve and return.
-Introducing spin and power control.
2. Dinking & Net Play:
-Enhancing control and accuracy in dinks.
-Learning when to attack versus when to reset.
-Understanding proper positioning at the kitchen line.
3. Volleys & Overheads:
-Strengthening reaction time and shot placement.
-Proper technique for overhead smashes.
4. Footwork & Court Positioning:
-Movement drills to improve agility and positioning.
-Learning efficient transition from baseline to net.
5. Game Strategy & Tactics:
-Understanding when to drop versus drive the ball.
-Effective communication in doubles play.
-Recognizing opponents' weaknesses and adapting strategy.
6. Match Play & Drills:
-Applying learned skills in live play situations.
-Drills focusing on consistency and shot accuracy.
-Constructive feedback from the coach to enhance gameplay.

Pickleball Skills & Strategy: Advancing to 3.0 Level

Pickleball Skills & Strategy: Advancing to 3.5 Level
Description:
This class is designed for players who are consistently playing at the 3.0 level and looking to refine their technique, improve shot control, and develop strategic play to reach the 3.5 level. Through focused drills, match play, and tactical instruction, players will work on increasing consistency, shot placement, and decision-making in competitive situations.
What You’ll Learn:
Advanced shot execution (third-shot drops, drives, and roll volleys)
Increased consistency and placement in dinks and volleys
Transitioning from baseline to the non-volley zone effectively
Strategic shot selection and court positioning for doubles play
Defensive strategies and countering aggressive opponents
Communication and teamwork for stronger doubles play
Who Should Join:
This class is ideal for players who have solid fundamental skills, can sustain longer rallies, and are ready to advance their competitive game with improved shot control and strategy.
Format:
Each session will include high-repetition drills, strategy discussions, and coached match play to reinforce key concepts and prepare players for higher-level competition.

In the case of inclement weather, we will move the lessons to Shoreline Pickleball located at 333 Quarry Road, Milford, CT 06460. You will be notified when classes are moved.
