Lifeguarding Certification Course - BL:
The primary purpose of this course is to provide entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide professional-level care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services (EMS) personnel take over.
This program offers Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED courses to meet the various training needs of a diverse audience.
Participants who successfully complete this course receive an American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED valid for 2 years. Failure of the prerequisite test will result in a $125 administrative fee and disqualification from the class.
Participants must attend every class.
Class Schedule: December 27-29
December 27, 2024: 11:00-3:00pm Prerequisite Test (see requirements below)
December 28, 2024: 8:00-5:00pm
December 29, 2024: 8:00-5:00pm
Program Requirements and Prerequisites
Swim-Tread-Swim Sequence:
1. Swim 150 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both.
-Swimming on the back or side is not permitted.
-Swim goggles are allowed.
2. Maintain position at the top of the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading water using only the legs.
3. Swim 50 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both.
Timed Sequence: Complete the timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds.
1. Starting in the water, swim 20 yards.
-The face may be in or out of the water.
-Swim goggles are not allowed.
2. Surface dive (feet first or head first) to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.
3. Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point, holding the object at the surface with both hands and keeping the face at or near the surface.
4. Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
Blended Learning (BL): Online and Classroom
- eLearning: Link will be emailed approximately 2 weeks prior to the start of the first class. Online session must be completed prior to in person training.
