Danilo Sierra-Giraldo
Danilo started playing water polo at 12 years old for Club Belen, one of the best clubs in South America, and for the swimming league of Antioquia (a Colombian state). At 15, he was selected to play for the State of Antioquia 16U youth team which he played on for two years.
In 2010, Danilo moved to the United States and at that time there were not many opportunities to play water polo. His passion for the sport led him to coaching, he always wanted others to feel the same passion, joy and freedom that he felt when playing with his teammates.
Danilo started coaching at Staples High School (Westport CT), in the spring of 2014 with the Girls Water Polo Team, and in the fall took on coaching responsibilities for the Boys Team, head coaching positions he still holds today. He continues to play water polo at the Masters level.
Danilo says, “I am very excited to bring water Water Polo to the community in Milford. I’m always looking for ways to make the kids improve at the game while still enjoying the sport. I always try to share my knowledge and experience as a player, coach, and as a person so that they can feel the same passion that I have for this great sport. I feel proud knowing that I will have the opportunity to share my experiences, expand the popularity of water polo, and make young people have fun in a healthy and safe atmosphere.”
